Set against the tropical scenery of the South Pacific the plight of love strives in the perils of war. In their aim to halt the Japanese advance, the American navy set up base on the island of Espiritu Santo and this powerful story follows the lives of those who lived and worked there during World War II.
Awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama after premiering on Broadway in 1949, ‘South Pacific’ has become one of the most memorable and emotional classics ever written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, with songs including ‘There is Nothin’ Like a Dame’, ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ and ‘Bali Ha’i’.
LAOS performed South Pacific from 26th March to 2nd April 2011 at West Yorkshire Playhouse.
