Leeds Amateur Operatic Society

Leeds Amateur Operatic Society (LAOS) are a well established and professional operatic society performing at prestigious theatres for many years. With over 100 members based around West Yorkshire, LAOS is a well-known society with many regular followers.

As you will see from our history LAOS was originally founded in 1890, first staging ‘H.M.S Pinafore’ at the Coliseum in Cookridge Street, Leeds. Since then the society has gone from strength to strength, now performing two shows a year at Leeds Grand Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse.

LAOS The Company

As a charity LAOS supports many organisations throughout the West Yorkshire region as well as providing coaching and sponsorship for development of the arts. Some of our recent projects include supporting cast members through NODA theatrical training, appearing at St Gemma’s Hospice Garden Party and providing performing arts coaching to a local high school, David Young Community Academy. The charities we have recently supported include Yorkshire Air Ambulance, St Gemma’s Hospice, NSPCC and Martin’s House.

Currently LAOS are in final preparations for their spring performance of Chess at Leeds Grand Theatre, which promises to be another great show. Book your tickets now to not miss out!

If you wish to join the society you can find out more about how to audition on our membership pages.
